Expression of Superoxide Dismutase-1 (SOD-1) and changes of corneal endothelial morphology after phacoemulsification with hypothermic perfusion

Background: Hypothermic perfusion can be used as adjunctive therapy to reduce corneal endothelial cell damage during phacoemulsification procedures. This study aims evaluate the effect of hypothermic on expression Superoxide Dismutase-1 (SOD1) and morphological changes in endothelium after ultrasound energy exposure. Methods: Sixteen New Zealand white rabbits (n=16 eyes) were randomly divided into two groups exposed phacoemulsification. The control group was administered room temperature (RT) (24°C) Balanced Salt Solution (BSS) intraocular perfusion, treatment (4°C) BSS perfusion. Coefficient Variation (CV) hexagonality measured before one day surgery with specular microscopy. SOD1 examined by immunohistochemistry staining. Data analyzed using SPSS version 26 for Windows. Results: result showed that significantly lower compared (p=0.024, p<0.05). There no significant differences between CV (p=0.494, p>0.05) (p=0.916, p>0.05). correlation change (p=0.188, or (p=0.763, Conclusion: suppresses all metabolic processes, including ROS production. coefficient variation a representative morphology also decrease exposure but are not statistically significant. is hexagonality.
